4th Annual Winter Showdown Series wrap-up |
The fourth season of the Winter Showdown
Series came to a close on April 19th with a
bonus show added and followed by the
highpoint lunch. This year also featured a
new class added to the schedule; Schooling
Pleasure, for those horses that aren’t ready
for a pattern or need a warm up. When
tallying up the high point awards the points
were high with five shows. In the
Walk/Trot/Canter division high point
Brittany Wolf was the victor with 32 points
and a close reserve was Danielle Kaleta with
31 points. In the Walk/Trot division the
high point champion was Abby Bennett with 27
points and reserve went to Reece Hart with
25 points.
It was great to have such high attendance at
all of the shows with exhibitors and
spectators. All of us involved with the
Winter Showdowns would like to thank all of
you who come to these shows and make them
what they are. It makes us very happy to see
your faces and share in the enjoyment of
riding. We would also like to extend a very
big thank you to our volunteers and judges
for offering your time and expertise.
Here’s to a great 2010 show season, we look
forward to seeing you in December to kick
off the 5th Annual Winter Showdown Series! |

Mama Tess retires--looking for condo
in Boca
|
After many years of patient and faithful
service--well, faithful at any rate, Raelyn's
Tess- “Mamma Tess” has hung up her bridle
and joined the ranks of the retired. Mamma
Tess is 29 and was Jessie’s first leadline
horse many many years ago. We wish her all
the best at this new stage in her life, and
hope that Secrets' broken heart will soon
heal.

Cingate Starry Night (Astronomicallee x
Cingate Vincent's Song) made a very
impressive showing for her owners Cindy &
Gaeton Lorino, Cingate Morgans LLC of
Montgomery. AL. Trained and shown by Whitney
Bodnar, she was the 2009 Two-Year-Old
Pleasure Driving Reserve World Champion.
This young mare is incredibly talented and
beautiful with an outstanding show attitude.
We are also very proud to say that she is a
full sister to the Merriehill Farm owned
stallion Cingate Revelation who is standing
here at stud.

For the Team of Merriehill Farm there is
nothing quite like ending your World
Championships with a Unanimous vote of
the Judges to
Win
the highly competitive World Pleasure
Driving Championship on the last night
of this eight day long competition. This
must be what walking on clouds would
feel like. This was achieved by
Merriehill Farm owner and trainer, Stan
Bodnar with Fox Hollow Talk About Me
(Whispering Whammunition x Cyderbay
Chantilly(x Merriehill Chicagoan) for
owners, Mark Staehnke and Wayne Edwards,
Redwood Partners, LLC of San Diego, CA.
And Talk they did!
After qualifying with an
outstanding win in the Grand National
Pleasure Driving Geldings Championship
Stan Bodnar turned it on even more for
an excitingly flawless performance by
“Toby” which ended with one of the final
victory passes of the show.
Even though “Toby” is only just out of
his junior years winning an open class
of this magnitude at the young age of
only five is a tremendous achievement.
We are all very proud of them both. It
holds even more meaning when we all have
had such a large part in his entire life
as Toby has been under the supervision
of Merriehill Farm since Byron & JoAnn
Holston, Fox Hollow Morgans, Plain, WI
sent him to get him started as a
yearling. Both Whitney & Stan Bodnar
have shared in the training of this
World Champion.

The next Star in the Merriehill Farm OKC
string is Merriehill Home Stretch owned by
Ruthann Peterson, Hobby Horsehill,
Saukville,
WI. This tall, stretchy, athletic
black stallion with an incredible headset
was presented by Whitney Bodnar to be the
Three-Year-Old Stallion In Hand Reserve
Grand National Champion and the Reserve
World Champion Three-Year-Old Park Harness
horse.
The audience definitely showed its approval
of this horse by their very enthusiastic
applause on his victory pass. “Stretch” has
certainly gained a very large following in
his young show career. Merriehill Home
Stretch will be standing at stud in 2010
here at Merriehill Farm. He is also
available for purchase to the most
discriminating buyer.

Another of the Merriehill Farm string at The
2009 Morgan World Championship to make her

very proud was Merriehill Black Betty (Astronomicallee
x Merriehill Great Day). Just purchased
shortly before going on to OKC from
Merriehill Farm this gorgeous, talented and
fiery black beauty who is trained and
presented by Merriehill Farm trainer Whitney
Bodnar was the Grand National Champion
Two-Year-Old Mare In Hand and the World
Champion Jr. Mare In Hand, ably assisted by
another Merriehill Farm trainer, Mark
Bodnar. As if this was not enough already
for this young mare's first trip to the
World Championships “Betty” went on to win
the highly competitive World Futurity
Two-Year-Old Park Harness Championship.

We are very proud of our Merriehill Wild At
Heart (Astronomicallee x Merriehill
Isabella) in her first year in the hunter
pleasure division for being named the
Four-Year-Old Hunter Pleasure Mares Reserve
Grand National Champion. “Merri” was shown
to this win by Jessica Bodnar. Although we
were not able to show her back in the
Four-Year-Old Hunter Pleasure World
Championship since Jessica was already
committed to showing another of the
Merriehill Farm string, Epona’s Perrier
Jouet, who ultimately won that World
Championship.
With her quality, refinement and outstanding
athletic ability we are expecting great
things from this beautiful mare in 2010.

can take you to the top.

Not only were Donna & Jerry O'Neill of
Castle Creek Morgans located in Liberty, MO
able to purchase the horse of their dreams
this year at Merriehill Farm they were also
able to watch another dream come true this
October at the Grand National and World
Championship Morgan Horse show in Oklahoma
City, Ok when Epona’s Perrier Jouet aka
“Niles” (What's My Line x Cingate Sugar
Magnolia) was named the 2009 Four-Year-Old
Hunter Pleasure World Champion.
This was the second year in a row for
Niles, trained and shown by Merriehill Farm’s
very own Jessica Bodnar. Epona’s Perrier
Jouet was the 2008 Three-Year-Old Hunter
Pleasure World Champion. This is an
exceptional achievement for a young horse.
In 2010 it will be Donnas turn to take over
the reins and we look forward to seeing them
in the winners circle.

“Mister” was just named the 2009 Morgan
Three Year Old Hunter Pleasure Reserve World
Champion in Oklahoma City and was very
beautifully ridden by Jessica Bodnar. Taylor
River Farm, LLC, Hampton Falls, NH was the agent and will be his new trainer.
We are looking forward to hearing great
things about Katelyn and Mister for many
years to come

Weanling Gala Champion: Merriehill Isa Diva
|

We are very proud to announce that
Merriehill Isa Diva, owned and bred by
Merriehill Farm was named the 2009 Grand
Champion at the 1st annual Morgan Weanling
Gala Event that was held at the Jubilee
Regional Championship Morgan Horse Show in
Springfield, IL.
“Diva” is sired by Beethoven and out of our
World Champion Merriehill Isabeau. “Isabeau”,
who is now 22 years old, was the first foal
sired by our Merriehill Chicagoan and out of
Merriehill Radiance. Outstandingly trained
and presented by Whitney Bodnar who was very
capably assisted by his brother, Mark
Bodnar, “Diva” stood out as a star from the
first elimination round of the evening to
the final class of the night when she was
called out as the winner.
We would like to thank all of those that
made this event possible: the owners who
nominated their stallions; American Morgan
Horse Institute; the wonderful MWG Sponsors;
the businesses that donated such great
prizes to the winners; and Marietta Kennedy
for creating and donating the beautiful,
original MWG trophy we received.

Congratulations to Donna &
Jerry O'Neill, Castle Creek Morgans,
Liberty, MO on the purchase of Epona’s
Perrier Jouet. “Niles” is an outstanding
young hunter who was the 2008 Three Year Old
Hunter Pleasure World Champion under the
ownership of his owner/breeders Epona
Morgans, LLC, Minnetonka, MN and trained by
Jessica Bodnar, Merriehill Farm, Inc.
He has started out 2009 in great style by
winning both the Morgan Hunter Pleasure
Junior Horse and the Morgan Hunter Pleasure
Junior Horse Championship. “Niles” will
continue on with Merriehill Farm, Inc under
the guidance of Jessica Bodnar through Grand
National.
“Niles” is to be Donna O’Neill’s personal
show horse. We look forward to seeing them
as a new team in the show ring in 2010 and
we are sure it will be a long and very
successful team.

Putt-Putt Day
June 13, 2009

Each year, Marengo Main Street, a local
non-profit organization, turns downtown
Marengo into a miniature golf course for one
day only. Businesses and organizations build
their own unique "Putt-Putt holes," and
compete for the grand prize: a traveling
trophy marked "Best in Show."
2009 was the first time Merriehill Farm
participated in this event, and guess who
won? |

Putt-Putt Day! Kevin Luedtke and Whitney
Bodnar designed and built the winning
Merriehill Farm, Inc. Putt-Putt course.
We would like to thank Peggy, Kevin and
Lauren Luedtke and Dawn and Penelope Snodden
for all of their hard work in helping to put
this together, spending the day setting up
and taking down the course, and assisting
players. Because of them, the Merriehill
Farm, Inc. Putt-Putt course were the
winners.
